The Hong Kong Chronicles Project officially began in 2019 . It is planned that the chronicles would entail 66 volumes with some 25 million words, requiring 8 years to complete . In essence, they constitute an encyclopaedia for Hong Kong, covering its history, culture, economy, social and political systems, as well as selected topics and personal profiles. The project is being carried out by the Our Hong Kong Foundation, under the auspices of the HKSAR Government. The Editorial Committee consists of 28 scholars from various universities, leading an editorial team of some 40 younger scholars/writers. The first volume was released at the end of 2020.
The Speaker
Professor CF Lee is the former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong; and is currently Chief Convenor of the Editorial Committee, Hong Kong Chronicles.
Since its establishment in 2003, Professor Lee has served as the Director of the Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole, a world class research institute for Chinese cultural studies, founded by the legendary scholar Professor Jao Tsung-I, University Laureate. Professor Lee is also an expert in the history and development of Buddhism, and helped establish the University’s Centre of Buddhist Studies in 2000.
Professor Lee was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2003, and awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star in 2005 and a Gold Bauhinia Star in 2013.
