Co-founder & CEO of Walk in Hong Kong, Paul C.Y. Chan, will give us a guided tour in Sha Tau Kok, where its second phase opening starting January 2024.
Step into the streets of Sha Tau Kok to discover the heyday of the frontier closed area. A neighbourhood that blends traditional Chinese culture with the old days of colonial Hong Kong, and overlooks the natural beauty of Double Haven.
Situated in Hong Kong's North District and adjacent to Shenzhen's Yantian District, Sha Tau Kok was designated as part of the Frontier Closed Area in 1951. Since then, when Sha Tau Kok was off-limits to nonresidents, visiting this border town necessitated a guarantee from a local resident.
Visitors are now able to participate in local tours to uncover the region's stunning landscapes, distinctive attractions, and delectable local cuisine.

The Speaker
Paul C.Y. Chan holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong, a Master of Philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and a Master of Science Degree in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
He was once a part-time lecturer at the Department of Government and Public Administration at CUHK, Political Assistant to Secretary for Food and Health, HKSAR Government (2008 to 2012) and a presenter and commentator at Radio Television Hong Kong.
Paul is also a founding member of the Roundtable group and Co-founder & CEO of Walk In Hong Kong, a cultural enterprise with a strong social mission that curates immersive and memorable experiences. He is also involved in the conservation campaign of the State Theatre in North Point, Former Service Reservoir in Bishop Hill, and recently 190 Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Admission: $550 for members, $560 for guests /non-members (TBC)
Included: Coach transfer between Kowloon Tong MTR station and Sha Tau Kok (twoway), processing application of tourism closed area permit (subject for police approval), guided tour
Excluded: Meal in Sha Tau Kok, personal expenses
Registration: Please express your interest by email <membership@royalasiaticsociety.org.hk> and provide your membership number, if applicable, and your mobile phone number, together with the required ID copy required by Hong Kong Police Force for your application of Tourism Closed Area Permit (T-CAP).
Documents required:
(1) HK permanent residents – a Copy of HKID card or
(2) Non-HK permanent residents – a Copy of Passport / other valid travel document

IMPORTANT REMARKS:
In addition to presenting a valid T-CAP, non-HK permanent residents are also required to show a valid immigration proof, i.e. Endorsement/Landing Slip, for inspection before entering to Sha Tau Kok Frontier Closed Area. Therefore, please keep your Endorsement/Landing Slip safe after entering Hong Kong for inspection purposes.
